Approved By: SMHS Bandwagon Executive Board
1. Purpose
The SMHS Bandwagon (“Booster Club”) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting the students,
families, staff, and the Sunrise Mountain High School Band and Guard programs.
This Code of Conduct establishes expectations for respectful communication, responsible participation, and
appropriate behavior in all Booster Club activities and communications. Its purpose is to maintain a
professional, welcoming, and student-centered environment where questions and concerns can be
addressed constructively.
2. Scope
This Code of Conduct applies to all Booster Club members, parents/guardians, volunteers, committee
members, officers, and other participants when:
Participating in Booster Club meetings, activities, or events;
Volunteering on behalf of the Booster Club;
Using BoosterHub or other Booster Club communication platforms;
Communicating with Booster Club officers, volunteers, staff, or other parents regarding Booster
Club matters; or
Representing or acting on behalf of the Booster Club.
3. Standards of Conduct
All participants are expected to:
- Treat students, parents, volunteers, staff, officers, and members with courtesy and respect.
- Communicate professionally, respectfully, and constructively.
- Keep communications and conduct focused on supporting students and the band program.

- Respect the roles and responsibilities of the Booster Club Executive Board, volunteers, and school
- personnel.
- Protect the privacy and dignity of students, families, volunteers, and staff.
4.Questions, Concerns, and Disagreements
The Booster Club recognizes that parents and members may have questions, concerns, or disagreements
regarding costs, fundraising, events, policies, decisions, or other matters.
Expressing a concern or disagreement, by itself, is not a violation of this Code of Conduct.
Concerns should be communicated respectfully through the appropriate channel. When appropriate,
members should first address concerns with the individual, committee, or Executive Board member
responsible for the matter rather than raising an individual dispute in a group forum.
Booster Club communication platforms may not be used to pressure, embarrass, harass, publicly criticize,
or discredit individual volunteers, students, families, Executive Board members, Booster Club members, or
staff.
5. BoosterHub App & Parent Chat Etiquette
BoosterHub and other official parent communication channels are intended for timely and useful
information regarding the band program, including schedules, events, volunteer opportunities, fundraising,
and other Booster Club business.
"Parent Chat " communications should generally occur between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., except when an
urgent matter requires communication outside these hours.
The “All Members” chat is reserved for student questions directed to the Executive Board and for official
communications from the Executive Board to parents and students.
Participants are expected to use these platforms responsibly and respectfully.
Appropriate Use
Participants should:
- Keep posts relevant to the band program or Booster Club business.
- Ask questions respectfully and constructively.
- Share accurate and verified information.
- Allow reasonable time for volunteers to respond.
- Use private communication for personal, sensitive, or individual matters.
- Use the appropriate communication channel for questions, concerns, or disputes.
- Consider how written comments may be perceived before posting.
Prohibited or Inappropriate Use
The following conduct is not permitted on BoosterHub or other official Booster Club communication
platforms:
- Personal attacks, insults, harassment, intimidation, or threats.
- Targeting, berating, or repeatedly arguing with another parent, volunteer, Board member, student, or staff member.
- Posting unverified accusations or allegations about any individual.
- Knowingly sharing false, misleading, or materially inaccurate information.
- Repeatedly posting disputed information after it has been clarified by an authorized Executive Board member when doing so disrupts the group.
- Using group communication to pursue personal disputes or grievances.
- Publicly criticizing or disparaging individual students, parents, volunteers, Board members, or staff.
- Repeated or excessive posts that disrupt normal communication.
- Sharing confidential, private, or personally identifying information about another person without authorization.
- Using the platform for political, commercial, or unrelated purposes.
- Representing personal opinions as official Booster Club positions without authorization.
6. Addressing Disruptive Communication
The Booster Club respects every parent's right to ask questions, express concerns, and disagree with
decisions. These rights must be exercised in a manner that does not disrupt the broader parent community.
When communication becomes repeatedly disruptive, disrespectful, or inconsistent with this Code of
Conduct, the Executive Board may establish the following boundary:
“We respect your right to share your concerns, but we ask that conversations remain
respectful and constructive. Continued posts that create conflict or spread unverified
information may need to be removed in accordance with our group guidelines.”
Depending on the circumstances, the Executive Board may:
- Remind the individual of applicable communication expectations.
- Request that the discussion move to private communication with a Board member or appropriate committee.
- Remove posts or comments that violate this Code of Conduct.
- Temporarily restrict an individual's participation in BoosterHub or other Booster Club communication platforms.
- Permanently remove an individual from a Booster Club communication platform when continued conduct demonstrates an unwillingness to comply with these standards.
- Refer matters involving school policies, students, or school personnel to the appropriate school or district administrator.
- Take other appropriate action consistent with the Booster Club's bylaws and policies.
These measures are intended to maintain a respectful and productive communication environment and are
not intended to prevent parents from raising legitimate concerns or asking reasonable questions.
7. Student-Focused Conduct
The primary purpose of the Booster Club is to support students.
Adults are expected to model the professionalism, respect, and integrity we want students to demonstrate.
Adult disagreements must not interfere with a student's participation, experience, relationships, or
opportunities within the band program.
Students must not be placed in the middle of adult disagreements, personal disputes, or Booster Club
matters.
8. Conflict Resolution
When a conflict arises, participants should:
Allow time for emotions to settle before responding.
- Seek clarification rather than assume intent.
- Address the concern with the appropriate individual, committee, or Board member.
- Use private communication for sensitive or individual matters.
- Escalate unresolved concerns to the Executive Board when appropriate.
- Direct matters involving school administration, students, or school policies through the appropriate school or district process.
9. Enforcement
The SMHS Bandwagon Executive Board is responsible for administering and enforcing this Code of Conduct.
In determining an appropriate response, the Executive Board may consider the nature, severity, frequency,
and impact of the conduct, including whether the conduct continues after a warning or request to
discontinue.
The Booster Club reserves the right to take reasonable action when conduct adversely affects the
organization, its volunteers, communication platforms, or the student experience.
Nothing in this Code of Conduct is intended to prohibit an individual from raising a legitimate concern,
reporting misconduct, or exercising any rights provided by applicable law, school policy, or district policy.
10. Acknowledgment
Participation in the SMHS Bandwagon Booster Club, its activities, volunteer opportunities, and official
communication platforms constitutes acknowledgment of and agreement to comply with this Code of
Conduct.
Our standard is simple:
Communicate with respect.
Verify before sharing.
Address concerns appropriately.
Keep students at the center of everything we do.
